FABRIK is a generative art project developed by Andries Odendaal, a renowned digital artist from Cape Town and one of the earliest members of the digital art movement. It was intended as a token of appreciation and a tribute to those who have been with us through the highs and lows of the market.
The project is the culmination of more than two years of artistic and technological development which leverages insights from a number of different PhD papers, but ultimately executed in custom code without the reliance on external libraries. At the heart of FABRIK is its advanced algorithm, which can produce a broad spectrum of complex and nuanced artistic outputs using simple building blocks. It positions FABRIK among the most sophisticated expressions of generative art to date.
Each work within the series employs the repeating and interlocking parallelogram motif. These simple geometric shapes are algorithmically woven into intricate geometric tapestries. Their interlocking angles and slants initially create a sense of patterned stability reminiscent of three-dimensional architectural structures or scaffolding.
The use of contrast in scale and texture aims to evoke a sense of tension between stability, structure, order, and the forces of change, entropy, and impermanence. In FABRIK, the same recursive algorithms that ensure its structural integrity also introduce elements of disruption, creating an illusion of decay and disintegration. It can be interpreted as an ode to the dynamics of creation, destruction, and enduring resilience within the market, celebrating the perseverance and loyalty of its participants amidst change.
- You can find further details about the algorithm on the project’s dedicated website;
- and on the Fabrik page on OpenSea.
Minting design
FABRIK is a free mint. Users only cover the gas fees.
Our goal with FABRIK is to honor our most loyal and active contributors who have played a significant role in the protocol’s success and stood by us through the bear market.
The whitelisting process was intentionally designed to achieve this objective, allocating half of the supply to users ranked on our volume leaderboard and distributing the other half among the remaining active users via a draw.
- 500 spots are reserved for the wallets that have generated the most interest in USD terms, using the ETH exchange rate on the day the loan was initiated.
- 500 spots were randomly drawn among the remaining wallets. The raffle was conducted using an on-chain verifiable randomness system. You can access the results here..
- 24 spots are reserved for the artist (5) and the NFTfi team alongside project collaborators (19). These are allocated specifically for long-term holding to commemorate the event.
The NFT minting window will remain open throughout the 41-day token claim countdown period. At the conclusion of the 41 days, any unclaimed NFTs will be minted and transferred to the NFTfi foundation wallet.
The first NFT (ID 0) will be allocated to the artist as proof of appreciation and recognition.
Collection technical specifications
The collection consists of 1024 NFTs. The edition size is immutable, ensuring scarcity and exclusivity. NFTs are minted using the ERC-721 standard.
